My mom was a feisty lady. This is what gave her the strength to carry on with the ups and downs in her life - and there were a few. She really cared for her 4 children and she always put us first. Dad came 2nd. Mom really liked telling us what to do and we used to call her the "sergeant major". I had the honour and privilege to taking care of my mom for 11 months when we first discovered she had been stricken with Alzheimers. Mom really liked being part of our family and would help out as much as she could around the house. She loved going to her Day Program in Barrie and in the summer she really loved sitting outside on the deck in the sun. I guess it reminded her of her native country Italy where she grew up. I will miss going to the nursing home and sitting with her while I reminded her of the stories of her life. We would sing together whenever the home had musicians. I didn't realize how much she liked to sing. Well she is at peace now and I can see her standing next to my dad trying to tell him what to do. I will miss you mom forever!! Your daughter Rita.

Lina (my mom) was an incredible person. She was an immigrant whose strength and perseverance allowed her to not only establish a new life for herself and my dad but raise a family of four while working and contributing to her new country. There were many ups and downs throughout the decades but she always ensured her children came first. Her legacy is reflected by the many people whose lives she impacted and her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
