Obituary

Scott, William James.

Passed peacefully at home on August 1st, 2019 in his 81st year. Cherished husband of Patricia (nee Taylor) and beloved father to Robert (Jan), Daniel (Sharon), and Ryan (Jennifer).

Born and raised in Toronto, Bill retired in 1998 after 38 years with York Hydro. His retirement afforded him the time for long bike rides by the lake, hundreds of rounds of golf, many meals at the Dundas Street Grille with Pat, and plenty of outings with his much-loved and adored grandchildren (Ben, Jackson, Ally, Thomas, Brandon, Will, Tristan, James and Matthew).

A visitation will be held at Ward’s Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd, M9N 1X7, on Tuesday, August 6th, 2019 from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. A private burial will follow. The family would like to thank Dorothy Ley Hospice and Home Instead Agency for their exemplary efforts and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations as expressions of sympathy can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Bill’s name.

In his last 5 years, @York Hydro, I was his secretary. I saw that Bill was devoted to his wife, Pat, and his 3 boys. He loved the outdoors. He walked, for exercise, everyday before coming to the office and at the end of the day, he'd be carrying his briefcase and say "Well, I guess I'll go home and listen to the birds."

He had a great sense of humour. In fact, at my interview for the job - he said, "My secretary, Marg, is leaving and who is going to laugh at my jokes?" It wasn't long and I was laughing too.
On particularly cold Winter days, I used to burn different scented candles at my desk.
One day, he asked, "Exactly what do you want our office to smell like today?"
"Your mother's kitchen." I laughed .

One time, I mentioned to him, that a member at our meeting 'had short man's disease'. Bill immediately tried to stand on his tiptoes.

Another time he asked me a math question and as I reached for my calculator - he laughed, "You don't need that!" He was an Engineer and math was not my forte.

At an important General Manager's meeting, his fax machine ran out of paper and he called for me. As I rushed into his office, he said, just loud enough for me to hear, "Works well under pressure".
"That wasn't on my resume" I laughed.

Bill, you are a great measure of a man. Cherryl
