Gloria Irene Delong had a kind adventurous and fun loving spirit. It was important to her to travel and understand and share perspectives about the world. She experienced life to its fullest and in addition to being a loving mother, grandmother, wife, friend, and teacher, she was a scuba diver, pole vaulter, fisher woman, skier, sailor, tennis player, and avid golfer. She was beautiful inside and out, and had class. She loved music and had a special place in her heart for the Three Tenors, and Bocelli. She loved people and enjoyed good conversation over a glass of wine and a fine meal. Gloria was a fighter and was feisty, strong, determined, and courageous but passed unexpectedly Sunday 11/24/2019, nearly recovering from a recent surgery. Gloria will be missed by her 3 children, Mike, Krista, and Kim, their spouses Therese, Mike, and Jeff, her 6 Grandchildren Kyra, Haley, Dylan, Emma, Austin, and Liam and her many lifelong and new friends.

The family will be hosting a celebration of life for Gloria in 2020.

Gloria and Pete have a sweet spot in our hearts. When we moved to Ridgetown in 2011 we soon found out we had mutual friends. Through our never ending laughing over wine, we shared all the memories. After Pete left us we always had time for that sweet fun loving lady who would often come by. For those of you reading this our common connection was Major Al Robb and his wife Shirley.
We, my partner, Ross Andrews and I will smile often when we chat about Little Gloria. When I hugged her I always knew how much she loved life and she made me see it as a precious gift.
We will miss her dearly. Our thoughts are with her family she has left behind.
We are all enriched from knowing her.

For Gloria’s family and friends - it has been many years since I had seen Gloria. The last time I believe I was still a young child. I have a memory where we went over to pete and Gloria’s house and they had planned a whole treasure hunt with a map, and at the end there was a metal box filled with coins from many countries (no doubt a collection from Pete and glorias travels). I still have the box and the coins - it was a pretty unforgettable day!

I recall as well “helping” build the deck up at the cottage, trying to recover a milk can from the woods nearby that happened to also be home to a massasauga rattler (we failed on that one) and then of course eating eggs Benedict that Gloria had prepared in the small kitchen there. If I remember right this was shortly after they had bought the cottage. To this day, eggs Benedict is my favourite breakfast and many times when I eat it I think back to that first time. I remember falling off that dock as well right as we were packing up for the boat trip back to honey harbour, and Ken Hunter trying to get up on those kids waterskis. He sure dredged up all the seaweed in front of the dock that day!

I also think back to the days the kids were welcomed to Jakes boathouse while my dad and the pilot and friends crew would play darts. It was always a treat to get to hang out with the fun adults and Gloria was always ridiculously inviting and a please to chat with. Thank you Gloria and Peter for the many memories I carry to this day.

May you rest well Gloria, you are fondly remembered.
