To Joan and family
I was so sorry to read of Chris’ passing. I have wonderful memories of working with him on the Moorelands board. He was always supportive and encouraging and it was a result of his efforts that we were able to make positive change and the organization, financial viable. His leadership was invaluable, the right person at the right time.
Thinking of you at this sad time. I hope that your memories will bring comfort. In deepest sympathy, Marilyn Pattison, Victoria

I am so sorry to hear of Chris's passing. Maureen and I send our thoughts to Joan and family. I will never forget Chris's help, advice and understanding for a naïve immigrant from Ireland in 1970. I'm glad I got to be a colleague for so many years. I have a lot of great memories of Chris

To all the Barltrop Family from the Sparrow Family it is a sad day for all but Chris is now at peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
What a life Chris had, he filled it as much as possible with Joan by his side.
A trip to the US for a Hornbeck wedding with Joan and Chris before they were married was the start of many years of travel together. The four of us shared a love of travel but Chris and Joan way out did us in the number of countries visited.
We traveled with the children when they were young (remember the fish hook in the head James?) . Then we progressed to just four, great adventures and fun. One of the best was Kenya and Tanzania but we could have done without our van breaking down on a dirt road being used by Somalians (there mode of travel was two feet). This was just after we cleared a Kenyan roadblock and our guide/driver gave us dire warnings to not take pictures and to be quiet while he got clearance. Our second scary experience was on the Nile riverboat. In one section of our tour, Egyptian military came on board with a machine gun and they set it up on the upper deck. When we got off the boat and on a bus to tour a site in the area our bus convoy had a police escort front and back and the cross roads were blocked to let us through. Boy did Chris have a way of planning a trip. All the sites we saw were incredible, well worth the trip.
Did I mention the beer drinking contest that Chris and Bob had with the Aussies, better not to go there I think.
Then there was Chris ‘s love of military history that led us through many war cemeteries and memorials. I can’t remember how many we visited over the years. Even one in a tiny country like Singapore.
Over the years the Barltrops and Sparrows shared many special occasions, times of joy and sadness, it’s been quite a ride.
We have much to be thankful for.
Love to you all,
Bob and Terry Sparrow
